Functions and Maintenance of Safety Lockout Devices
Safety lockout devices are a specialized type of locking mechanism. Their purpose is to ensure that equipment energy is properly isolated and that machinery remains in a safe state. Lockout procedures prevent unexpected startup of equipment, which could otherwise result in injury or even death.
Another important function is to serve as a warning. For example, locks used on fire-fighting equipment in shopping malls are not intended for anti-theft purposes, but rather for safety indication.

Functions of Safety Lockout Devices:
- Shutdown maintenance
- Safety warning
- Prevention of misoperation
Maintenance of Safety Lockout Devices:
- Do not expose the lock to rain for long periods. Rainwater contains nitric acid and nitrates, which can corrode the lock.
- Keep the lock cylinder clean at all times. Prevent foreign objects from entering, as this may make unlocking difficult or even impossible.
- Regularly apply lubricating oil, graphite powder, or pencil lead powder into the lock cylinder to help reduce oxidation caused by long-term use.
- Pay attention to thermal expansion and contraction caused by weather changes (humid in spring and dry in winter), ensuring proper clearance between the lock body and the key for smooth operation.
