The Tale of Mr. Padlock’s Secret to Staying Strong

Once upon a time, there was a hardworking little padlock named Mr. Padlock. He guarded a big red toolbox every single day, keeping it safe from curious hands. He was proud of his job, but he also knew that even the strongest locks need a little care to stay in good shape.

One day, Mr. Padlock called his friend, the Key, and whispered:
“Hey, if you want me to stay strong and reliable, there are a few secrets you should know.”

First Secret: A drop of energy.
“Every six months, give my gears a little drink of lubricant. That keeps my insides running smoothly. Oh, and don’t forget to check my screws—tight screws make me feel secure!”

Second Secret: A clean throat.
“Even if I sound fine, sprinkle a pinch of graphite powder into my keyhole now and then. Slide the key in and out a few times—it’s like giving me a nice throat lozenge. Just promise me you won’t feed me oily stuff. That makes me cough with dust!”

Third Secret: A proper home.
“When you first install me, follow the manual. Measure carefully, put me in the right spot, and I’ll serve you loyally for years. A poorly fitted lock is like wearing the wrong-size shoes—uncomfortable and unreliable.”

Fourth Secret: A tidy tummy.
“Please keep dirt out of my cylinder. If I start to feel stiff, give me a little rinse with gasoline or rust-preventive oil, then let the key dance inside me until I feel free again.”

The Key laughed. “So that’s how you stay so dependable!”
Mr. Padlock jingled proudly and said, “Exactly. Take care of me, and I’ll take care of you. Together, we’ll keep your treasures safe for a very long time.”

And from that day on, the Key never forgot Mr. Padlock’s secrets—because a well-maintained padlock isn’t just protection, it’s a loyal guardian.
